Sleep Machine

My little guy can sleep like no other!! I LOVE IT! Lately he's been sleeping from 8ish pm all the way through till between 9 and 10 AM!! It's great! And it doesn't seem to matter the circumstances either: humidifier on or off, in his bed or in the packnplay, music on or off.

I already know how lucky I am... no need to tell me 1000 times.

NOT mommy of the year award

I missed that one by a mile!!

Today I was finishing up the last bit of laundry, trying to get all of Greg's shirts hung and such, and Caleb toddled off behind his walker. I only had a couple more shirts to do so I let him go. It was literally 20 seconds or less. I got suspicious when his wheels stopped rolling so I went to see where he was, and to make sure he wasn't drinking dish soap (his favorite cabinet to get in to) and to my surprise and dismay, the child was eating.... are you ready for this..... DOG POOP!!! I FREAKED out!! I thought he only had it in his hand, so I removed him and kicked the dog and cleaned up the poo, then I went back to check on Caleb and he was just grinning and smacking... so I did the finger sweep and cleaned out a cheek full of it! I almost lost my own lunch.... and the worst thing was his breath smelled like dog poo!!! Ugh that is worse than diarrhea, puke and spit up!!!

I called Greg to tell him what his son had done, and of course he thought I was joking.. Oh I wish I was... I squirted water in his mouth to try to get him to rinse and spit, he swallowed it, so I gave him his sippy cup to wash it down and out... he ended up spiting up on me... and that smelled like dog poo so I changed his clothes and my shirt and his high chair cover.. (the temporary parking place while I figured out what to do) After drinking enough water I guess he washed it all down and his breath smells better... that is just so gross.

I can't believe it. It was only 20 seconds!! I am so mad at the stupid dog too. WHY did she have to poop in my house???

I think I'm going to barbeque a chihuahua tonight.. anyone want?

Teeth and feet

So life after a first birthday isn't so bad. I still am in denial about the fact that I have a child that is more than a year old though. I don't know if that will go away any time soon. He is still so small and sweet and little and cute and baby-like. Anyway, this is a blog about Caleb, not about mom and my crazy hormonal feelings.

We are still not walking on our own, but it is getting ever closer. I've been saying that for months now! He is still only at about 10 steps at a time. He cruises along the walls and all the way around the room pretty darn fast, and even lets go in between if it's only a step or two. We try to get him to walk to us all the time but he's very unsure of himself. He does like the tile floor more than the carpet. I guess it's easier for him to get his balance but Oh does it make mamadaddy nervous!!

Yesterday I randomly did a sweep for teeth. I stuck my finger way back there and CHOMP I felt a big molar biting my finger! So I checked the other side.... CHOMP again. He has his top molars in the back.. Skipped the I-teeth I guess. No wonder he's been really biting at his food lately - he has chompers! He took a real bite of a piece of cheese the other day. It was cute seeing that tiny little rip... almost like a mouse was nibbling at it!

Oh yes, back to the feet/walking thing. I had his foot sized at the Stride Rite store on Wednesday. He wears size 4 BUT the girl said he has WIDE feet (or just fat) and SKINNY ankles. No wonder I can't get a regular size 4 shoe to stay on his cottonpickin' foot! His feet are too wide!! And No, I didn't buy any shoes at the Stride Rite store... can't bring myself to pay $44 for a pair of shoes... Although I found a pair of cool sandals that I WANT for him really bad. (Stage 2 "skip" shoes in brown, size 4, if anyone is feeling charitable)

Here are a few funny messy-baby pictures! MMMMM, Lasagna!

The pics that everyone wants to FINALLY see!!

We had a birthday party!! It finally happened - we are all well and we had people over! woohoo! Caleb was really good considering he only had a 30 minute nap all day. He was very neat about eating the cake. He dipped his finger in the icing and licked it neatly. So cute!! He loved opening his presents and loved the tissue paper a lot. Here are the pics from his big day, only 10 days late!!

Birthday Party bust

First of all, I am SO sorry for those of you that wasted your day on Saturday! We really should have called it off earlier. If anyone hasn't heard, Greg and I both had some type of food poisoning starting Saturday morning. I am feeling great today and Caleb's appetite mysteriously returned last night and he is feeling 100% better too. Caleb wasn't sick with food poisoning, he was just sick with snot/cough/antibiotic side effects/etc. Greg is still trying to kick it, and he's in bed right now resting. He tried to go to work today and made it about 2 hours before he had to come home.

BUT, we are going to try to have his makeup party THIS Saturday, March 10th, same time, same place (Noon at our house) Anyone who was already halfway here and had to turn around is COMPLETELY off the hook this time! We won't have our feelings hurt at all if you don't want to make the trip two weekends in a row. We are just thankful that you were going to come in the first place. No pressure whatsoever for this party, we promise. We understand how busy weekends can be that you have to book them three months in advance!!

P.S. Does anyone know if Sam's will take back 2.5 pounds of salad and a sheet cake that says "Happy Birthday Caleb!"?

One Year Portraits

I'm totally breaking the law right now... <>>

This is a digital snapshot - his head isn't really flat, the pic is just slanted to keep the camera flash out of the way
